Website to Enquiry Ratio Basics – Part 1

February 5, 2017

There are five main reasons why someone will leave your website without taking action.

  1. They do not have money

  2. They are not in a rush to proceed

  3. They have no requirement for your business

  4. They do not see value in your offerings

  5. They don’t trust you

Here are some tips to help you work on your website, ensuring that it’s doing it’s job correctly, getting people to contact you.

1. They do not have money

You can’t avoid this.  Their financial state is out of your control, and unless you want to become a charity you can’t do immediate business with them.  However, they may have the resources in the future.  Don’t lose the lead, have something on your site which is free that they can view or use if they provide their name and email.  Make a process to keep in touch with these leads, so they remember your business.

2. They are not in a rush to proceed

These clients could take a long time to make their mind up.Utilise special offers or promotions to put some time urgency for them to buy or contact you.People like a deal, and this often will help potential clients take action.

3. They have no requirement for your business

This one is easy!If they are on your website and aren’t a potential client, ignore them!

However, if you find there is traffic going to your website, but no one ever contacts you we have an easy solution for you.

4. They do not see value in your offerings

This is an easy one to fix.Review your website and pretend to be a customer that does not know everything about what you do.E.g. if you sell cars, pretend to be one of those customers that have no idea about cars, they just want one that looks nice!

Now, look at your website and think, what’s in it for me?

If you’d like more of an explanation, think about this. You’re buying a computer so you can edit the photos from your holiday, and your children will use it for the latest games.

You are in the store and you’ve talked to the salesperson for awhile, he’s figured out what you need exactly. He says:

“Check this out! This computer has a quad-core intel 4.1Ghz processor, with 16GB of ram, a 2GB video card and 2TB SSB.I think it’s perfect, it’s my favourite model.I’ve sold 10 of these and I can guarantee you’ll love it.”

Now, if you are into computers that probably makes perfect sense. If you’re not, you probably have no idea if the computer is good for you or not.If you’re like most people, you probably think it’s way better than what you need. So, take a look at this. Would it sound better if the salesperson said this:

“Check this out, from what you’ve told me this computer will suit you perfectly. It has a 4.1Ghz processor, which is how fast it can go. This combined with the build in video card is important for your children to play their games, and it’s enough to keep up with the latest games for the next few years. Also, it has 16GB of ram, that is how much it can think about at one time, that’s enough to be able to edit your full camera worth of photos with no annoying freezes or waits while you do it.In addition, it has 2TB of storage, with equates to about 1 million photos. It’s also a new type of storage, it is much more reliable than the old hard disks, which means you are very unlikely to lose your precious photos!”.

Now, that probably makes sense to you.It also sounds a lot like what you were after. The concept is called WII-FM (What’s in it for me).

5. They don’t trust you

Your website is your image.  People make a judgement on your business as soon as they open your webpage.  Make sure your webpage matches the image you want to portray.

Your website is not their to make a sale, it’s their to build trust, credibility and get people to contact you!

Ensure that the website focuses on your clients (see number 4).  Put your vision on it, about your company, why clients should deal with you.  While you’re at it, why don’t you put a few comments from your clients.  Testimonials are gold.

Also, you should forget about when you last updated your website, and think if it looks like it’s the latest model.  It’s extremely cheap these days to have a brilliant website – so if yours is 5 years old you should update it.  A 5 year old website is the equivalent in picking up a client in a 25 year old holden commodore.
